The Caverns of Nebulon: True 3D Worlds

Here are a series of screen shots that show some of the prototype settings developed for C.I.N.D.-E 1.4. Last updated 3/21/98.

This first cavern below is from the Rock Cavern or Bat Cave series of caverns.

Cave2

Some of the Caverns are huge! You can see the mid-boss hiding out there in the distance.

Cave3

Above is another view of the same cavern. Notice the specular highlight on the giant head/shrine sunk into the dirt. Because of the use of a dedicated Z-Buffer as part of the rendering pipeline, odd angles and strange organic shapes are rendered as easily as the more structured architecture in a game such as Quake. The head is actually the original head that Cind-E was modeled from. Also, the ground in the foreground is smoothly shaded with bilinear filtering, eliminating the "jaggies" or "pixelization" common in many titles.

Cave4

A couple of explosions go off illuminating the Cavern. The blue blop of texture floating on the left side is a water fountain that spurts up periodically. You can also see a bullet with a particle trail.

This next Cavern is underwater. This is from a 3/4 perspective overhead view.

Cave8

This is the same cavern from the floor.

Cave9

Here's the mid-boss hanging out in his proper Cavern.
