The Music of C.I.N.D.-E 1.4

Rick Lambright composed the in-game music for C.I.N.D.-E 1.4. He composed four cavern themes and one boss-fighting theme. He also arranged the pieces for each major type of sound card that currently exists. I originally chose the Roland Sound Canvas as my hardware reference standard and then Rick adapted each piece for OPL3, OPL4, Gravis Ultrasound, and General Midi (Roland Sound Canvas and MediaTrix AudioTrix Pro). The AudioTrix Pro is very similar to the Roland Sound Canvas and has been awarded the Fat Man's Seal of Approval, but Rick made a special arrangement for the card anyway.

Things have a changed a bit in the General Midi market, and Yamaha is poised to take over Roland's formerly 'esteemed' position... but at much more affordable prices and with a higher degree of compatibility. All future arrangements will also be tested against a Yamaha MU50.

As part of the process of arranging for these various cards, Rick devised something called "Generic Midi" (tm). Generic Midi is a subset of General Midi that sounds good on every card. It may not sound "correct", in that it may not imitate a Sound Canvas, but it sounds "good". The midi files here are adapted from the AudioTrix Pro files because they sound the best on most cards. Generic Midi itself was first used on my second title, "CyberDome."

Here are the five pieces (you may have to configure your browser to play midi files):
